Initial type exploration started by looking at different sans-serif typefaces. I wanted to use a sans-serif typeface in order to convey my development as a designer and moving forward within the industry. I also wanted the type to suggest my willingness to experiment with new and contemporary processes and techniques. The image below shows the five main typefaces I considered for my self-branding project, which I felt all conveyed contemporary and clean elements relating to my chosen concept.
My final typeface choice was a mixture of Helvetica Bold and Light. The bold weight was used within my final developed logo, as I felt this was an appropriate typeface to communicate one element of my personality which shows that I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work. For this reason, I wanted to choose a clean, neutral font to show this element of 'perfection'. Helvetica Light was then used for the contact information displayed on my business cards. Again, I chose this for the same reasons. It also meant that the type would be clear and easy to read by potential clients. Helvetica, being quite a contemporary typeface, helped to represent the new and some contemporary methods of working which I have learnt throughout this course so far, whilst creating a small contrast with the idea of traditional analog techniques, such as the lino print stamp I created for my logo.
