OUGD602 - The Story Of Intern Mag

6A2 - Demonstrate specific knowledge and specialist understanding of the professional and contextual location of their practice.

Origin story:
- Studied cultural studies (Sociology) in Manchester, before doing an MA in Sociology.
- Began working for a blog, whilst doing so emailed magazines to find an internship, and ended up getting one for Domus magazine based in Milan helping with social media scheduling, etc. Whilst working here, had an article published on the magazine's website and in magazine itself.
- Then secured another internship with Boat magazine (unpaid) in Athens, Greece.

Making Intern:
- The magazine is about the intern culture of creative industries, and about showcasing the best unpaid and intern talent across these industries.
- Started by making a kickstarter in order to fund the magazine's production - exchanged services with someone who filmed their video for them in return for an ad in the magazine.

Print publishing:
- It's hard to make a profit on printed issues of a magazine, if going into this do not put the printed issue at the centre of your business model, do not solely rely on this to make you a profit.

Evolution:
- Website, looking for new ways they can use digital content, and mixing up their delivery in order to appeal to new audiences.
- Podcast/YouTube channel - The Ladder.
