OUGD602 - Initial Website and Personal Branding Ideas and Sketches

6A2 / 6C2 / 6D2.

In starting to think about what I would like my website to look like, it was first thought I needed to work on my personal branding in order to help make my website consistent with this aesthetic. One initial idea, in order to communicate a more hands-on approach in terms of my practice, including screen-printing and illustration as well as graphic design, was to utilise handwritten type with rounder characteristics. It was also thought that this would potentially make my branding look more friendly and approachable. In order to enhance this approachable nature in my branding, it was considered this handwritten logotype should be placed within a circular shape, giving it a more playful nature.

Thinking along similar lines, another initial idea was to create imagery which could be used as a logo, rather than just type. Based on my name's initials (MLK) it was thought a simple, playful illustration of a milk carton could be produced as my logo, placing my initials within this almost acting as if a label on the carton.

In terms of my website, it was initially thought to continue this friendly approach, utilising the same type style as my logotype and creating a more professional email address that links to my domain name, such as hello@megankeighley.com. Another initial idea for my website was to continue playing on my name, splitting it up to communicate the different elements of my creative practice, for instance megan, meg(c)an - design, illustrate, create, using these as clickable links to separate work into different sections that produces consistency amongst sections so that my work does not look mis-match if shown altogether. This would also mean that different clients, agencies and studios can easily view just the type of work which best fits with their brand.
