My initial concept idea was to play off my surname, as 'Keighley' is also the name of a town in Yorkshire, which has always been mispronounced. For this I decided to research into the town's history and found that it was rated number 40 in the book 'Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK', which was also mentioned within a poem by John Cooper Clarke - "I'll tell you now and I'll tell you briefly, I don't ever want to go to Keighley". My initial pay-off idea used ideas from this poem to my advantage - "I'll tell you now and I'll tell you briefly, I'm not as bad as that town called Keighley", which would be used to suggest that my creative practice is not comparable to the reputation of the town.
For my brief description, I decided to look at the layout of information on the town's Wikipedia page. I would use this hierarchy and chronology of information within my own description in order to further relate myself and my surname to Keighley town in a more creative way. For instance, "established in 1996" (year I was born), "population one" (myself) and "situated 148.35 miles from the West Yorkshire town" (location), etc - "KEETH-LEE is a designer established in 1996. Situated 148.35 miles from the West Yorkshire town, she has a real interest in print-making, letterpress and other handmade methods of design. Population one".
