OUGD402 - Studio Brief 02 - Initial Logo Sketches

These images show initial logo sketches. In keeping my title as my given name, I wanted to work with my initials. Originally I looked at simply using my first and last name, combining the two letterforms together into one whole form. From this experimentation and research, I began to find that many of these ideas seemed to resemble already existing logotypes, such as those for Michael Kors and soon realised there was only a certain amount of ways you could combine the two letterforms. Based on this, I then looked at inserting the initial of my middle name into the logo as well, in order to break apart the 'M' and the 'K' slightly.

Other ideas looked at using elements of analog techniques to produce a logo, which would help to convey my interest in the handmade. This involved using simple, block geometric shapes and arranging them into my initials. For this I used coloured papers to further explored the impact overlapping colour could potentially have on this idea. Another method was to use my new knowledge of blacklettering to produce a handmade letterform. For this I experimented with the traditional black ink originally used for the process to give it texture and a clear handmade or personal touch.
