OUGD602 - New Website (Final Design)

6A2 / 6C2 / 6D2.

https://megankeighley.com/

For my final website design, the homepage remained similar to how I had initially developed it. It was decided that this should remain consistent with other elements of my personal branding, such as my business cards. On the homepage it was therefore decided to feature the same tagline as featured on my business cards to show the user straight away who I am as a designer, however manipulating this slightly so that the short underline does not feature with this type since it was thought this looked slightly out-of-place on the page. However, in order to keep a small element of this, when links are hovered over by the user these underline, acting as a practical element to show the user where the cursor is at before making a click. The job title given to myself in a session on designing your own job was also added to this homepage next to my name for a similar reason and to get the user more interested and engaged with my practice.

For easy access to each project, it was decided to feature these on the homepage. Typographic titles for each project were developed in the same style as my personal branding and the tagline which show up when the user hovers over the project title. This feature was thought to create a simple, but impactful experience when interacting with the website homepage.

When the user clicks on one of these project links it redirects them to the project page. Each of these feature a short, elevator pitch type description of the project so that the user gets a feel for the concept behind the project without having to read through a long description and as a result is more likely to keep their engagement. As the user scrolls down this takes them to a series of images from the project. When they reach the end, the page rises up to then reveal the homepage again, allowing the user to then easily click on a new project to view.

The 'about' and 'contact' pages have been featured at the top of the homepage in order to separate these from the project links and make these easy to find so that users do not have to hunt to be able to find contact information. Both of these pages feature the title of the page in the same typographic style as those on the homepage in order to continue the consistency across the site. The 'about' description has been kept short and sweet to give users and insight into who I am as a designer and then also gives them the opportunity to contact me to potentially find out more. On this page, my email address has been added as a mailto link along with links to both my Instagram and LinkedIn profiles. In addition the contact page features a form which users can fill out to email me any inquiries they may have. Featuring this email address in two places allows the user to easily find a way to contact me.
