OUGD602 - Personal Branding Evaluation

PERSONAL BRANDING EVALUATION:

One of the clear and immediate strengths of this personal branding is that everything shows elements of consistency to bring it altogether and instantly recognisable to myself as a creative.

However, one thing which may be considered to break the consistency is that the personal branding logo has not been used on the website. But despite this, it was thought that the type worked effectively on its own in this instance to create impact, whilst still remaining consistent to the brand, and was considered that the use of the logo on the homepage of this site could have potentially limited this type’s impact. As a future improvement, though, the logo could potentially be placed elsewhere on the site, such as on the ‘about’ page, or have the typographic tagline alternating with the logo in a kind-of slideshow format.

Also in terms of this website design, it was considered that featuring links to projects on the homepage allows each project to be accessed easily and instantly by users, encouraging more engagement with the content. However, it was thought that perhaps this could have been more tailored to feature a smaller amount of selected projects to make the homepage simpler and more specific to the elements of my work and practice that I want to show.

As another strength, it was considered that this personal branding instantly communicates the different elements of my practice through the bold typographic designs featured on my business card, website and notebook designs, whilst the addition of postcards was also thought to be an interesting idea in tailoring examples of my work and practice to potentially send to different studios and agencies.

However, some may consider that the use of colour in this personal branding could have been more professional. However, the reason for choosing the specific colour scheme was that I wanted to convey a fun, colourful and multi-disciplinary nature to my practice, and show myself as someone who is friendly and approachable rather than intimidating, which I have done through the use of lighter, more playful colours. In the physical production of business cards, though, the colours printed slightly differently than they appeared on screen, but despite this, they still work to effectively communicate the intended message.
